Some Tips...

Post by rbaron25 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 7:29 am

Well guys here are three tips I discovered today.
If you follow the first one you won't need the second and if you follow the second make sure you follow the third ...

1. Make sure your brake caliper bolts are tight ( both of them)
2. If you forget this and they happen to both hit your boot one after the other with a 5 minute gap then if you have race bobbins on the rear the bolts will fit and hold the brake caliper in place securely ( if you remember to tighten them both properly)
3. If you want to get them (the bobbin bolts) off have the right Allen key handy

(It does help to have a Rod handy as well)

Rule number one as it was my fault on my bike .. Don't attempt any maintainence on your bike unless your mind is fully aware and your not distracted. Focusing on the job in hand and not allowing your thoughts to distract you from the challenges that may be before you also.. I need an arsekick but am grateful all came out ok in the end.. But a lesson for all and gentle reminder. Pretty foolish of me and something that just isn't in my nature. So remember if you attempt to do anything.. Just take a deep breathe and empty your thoughts and stay focused at the task at hand...

Even the simplest of jobs can go wrong at my age :(
Doing a routine oil change, I went indoors for a cup of coffee while the old oil was draining out.

I now put the sump plugs on top of the new oil can so I can't forget to re-fit them before putting the new oil in
(This also saves me a fortune on oil and oil-stain remover)
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Haha, at a time I was so excited to try to start the bike after a huge rebuild, I forgot that the seal behind the front sprocket wasn't in place.
So the engine started and I let it run for a couple of minutes... It was getting dark so at first I didn't see that 4 litres of fresh, new oil was pumped straight on the drive and the garden.
What a mess! Well, the oilpumps worked very well, that's for sure...
