For my Dual Projector setup I will need to run two HID systems, they draw about 4.2 Amps each steady & 10 amps on start up, anyone know if this will stress the alternator?
Only one will be on when starting, the second will come on with Hi beam.
Given the FZR globes 55W each, I assume it should be ok...
Edit: I'll be running relays for the ballasts & using the headlight circuit to power the relays, so only a small load on the original headlight circuit.
Any one know the power output of the alternator?

The output should be around 350W, 25Amps. I've messed with HID before I wouldn't use it as highbeam, it makes a very powerfull flash and then takes a while to really give some light, nor would retrofit hid bulbs in halogen projectors, the glare everyones talks about, blah blah blah... I haven't seen a FZR400 dual projector but I installed a bixenon projector from a car in a FZR1000 headlight it's exactly the same diameter. Relays are a must.

I agree, wouldnt use HID for hi-beam at all.
Given that, you may stress your battery or wiring for a few seconds but your alternator will just go full output to cope with the drop.
Still dont know the actual amps though...........

Just arrived home digged for the trusty haynes, 23.5Amps @ 5000rpm on all TRX850. strangely it says 25.5Amps for all the TDM's and XTZ.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
I have a HID retrofit in the standard headlight at the moment, I find the light fine, but there's no light directly in front of the bike, something I an hoping to remedy with dual individually adjustable projectors.

23.5 amps at 12 volts equals 282 watts (watts= volts x amps).
