I have been told by removing standard cluster they bike will rev limit,how can i get around this as
im installing a vapour digital speedo gauge .thanks

Hi Jordy..the only TRX,s that i have known to have a rev limiter is in the IMPORT model..usually with a black motor.
Pretty sure the limitation will be in the ignition module..[black box] and not in the speedo cluster you will be replacing.
As with modern bikes ,the speedo cluster matches with the ignition and cant be separated...not so with these.
The IMPORT model will have pumper carbs as well.

Cluster, you talking of the gear cluster? I`m afraid that`s arse gravy! Now you CAN do a mod to the TPS via the CDI box and that will raise your rev limit, but honestly?
A TRX has gone through it`s powerband and out the other side by the time you reach the limiter.
If you use the search facilty and type in `TPS mod` you should find the thread.

im not sure if my bike is import or not it has mikkuni carbs and ive had it well past 180 and it didnt speed cut.

The main issue i face is - i been told removing my speedo cluster etc and installing a digital speedo that the bike
would rev limit at 6000rpm, if this is true how could i get around it.

and its a 1995 trx red/white.

If its 1995 red/white with back motor and probably gold brembo calipers then its a Japanese import ..... also if you're saying you've been past 180, I presume the speedo is in KM's.

I had no problem changing to a digital speedo on mine(Aus model). I can't see it would be an issue but I am not good at electirickery

@trixynut - yea exactly that kms/h and brembos , black motor.

project. How did you go about the rev limit after standard cluster removed.

Is what im saying an issue or is there no rev limit after factory cluster is removed.

180k's i gather that's in 3rd gear

Sorry Jordy, I should have been clearer. What I meant was I had no rev limiter issue. The bike did not rev limit at 6000rpm after removing the standard clocks.

ok, iirc, the Japanese imports have a small metal tab in the tacho or speedo which restricts speed in top gear only.
Removing the whole cluster should not be a problem i would have thought.
Search the forum for 'import restrictor, limiter, metal tab etc'.

I had seen a forum saying bout removing the tps plug from cdi and
earthing two pins on the cdi unit , in which the tps plugd into .
That is suppose to counter the limits .

What are your thoughts on removing the tps plug though.
Im thinkin not a good idea would prob have real horribe throttle
app and be lumpy through rev range.

You do indeed find the bike somewhat less responsive, some don`t notice much difference but I know I did so chose to keep the TPS on my FCR`s.
As I said, unless the motor has been tuned a stock TRX is through it`s usable powerband by the time the rev limiter cuts in.

Yeh its not tuned , what im getting at is ,
im going to run a digital speedo right , no more standard speedo/rev/etc,
factory the bike red lines at 8000rpm ,
aparently by removing the factory cluster it will limit the bike to 6000rpm,
if this were true i need to sort that out cause the last 2000rpm is where it
will make most of its power.

Thats what i mean by rev limit i should of been more clear.

To be honest i cant see why that would happen ,its just what ive heard.

Anyone heard of this or encounted this issue.

I've got an import TRX (black engine, brembo calipers) and I'm running an Australian model speedo, and I've noticed the rev limiter cuts in around 7k. Not really a problem for me as I never (well, almost never) rev it that high.
I believe theres a thingymajiggy available on the internet that plugs into your CDI that bypasses the rev limiter.
