Fuel consumption

Post by Mayhem » Wed Nov 09, 2011 3:00 am

I had a nice surprise this morning filling up the bike. Tavel 200 km this week (125 miles) and when I filled it only required 10L to fill. I understand it is an 18L tank and could therefore get another 100km before switching to reserve.

What sort of numbers do others get on their bikes. A the moment I figure I get 20km per litre so 5L per 100km.

Is this normal? Should I expect more or less?

hardly ever mentioned on here, but if you type "fuel consumption" into the search, you might just get lucky.

I generally only fill up when mine hits reserve, you cannot really be too concerned about fuel consumption with FCR`s and a right hand that loves to wind her on!

Mayhem,
the right hand is too variable for accuracy here. If I am lapping my local haunt, reserve will come by well under 250k
If I am cruising freeways and open roads I easily pass 300k before reserve.
Doesnt seem to make much difference on the fuel I use so I always fill up with the most expensive one for no good reason.
there are only 3 types of people in the whole world
those who can count
and those who cannot

I use mine mainly for a 350 mile a week dual carriageway commute & fill up every other trip. I put in, on average, 13 litres every 140 miles, which works out at around 47mpg. (Sorry for the mixed units of volume/distance  )

My last serious thrash saw me get to over 160 miles before reserve & I still only got 16 litres in; which works out at around 45mpg.

Perhaps I was being too gentle.

220 odd kms til reserves around town, 180-220 til reserve in the hills.

Best I've ever had was a touch over 300 odd til reserve on an Icicle Ride (midnight til dawn!) going 100/130km/h on country roads, which by my calculations would give 380kms til empty.

I've never been able to repeat that though :D

Used to get 250kms before switching to reserve - fitted new emulsion tubes & needles & now
get 320kms before reserve!!

Got to 280km today without going to reserve. Filled up as I was leaving a country town and was not sure of the distance to next opportunity. Took 13.5L. Nearly getting 4L for 100km if my maths is right? Happy with that. Mostly working the freeway to and from work so keeping at cruising speeds obviously helps.

Makes me wonder if the previous owner did the needles and tubes though. Great job if he did. Much appreciated.

My TRX will do 7.5l/100km purely inner city with hills. Will do mix 1/3 city rest highway at about 5.4l/100km. Driving style is commute so no excessive right hand antics (especially since there is ALWAYS a radar car on the way to or from!).
No idea if that is the correct consumption or not.

Cheers Oliver

My red TRX's tank holds 17.5L total including 2.5L reserve, measured.
Fuel consumption is around 16 Km/l urban and 18 Km/l country @ 144,000Km.
I've yet to push my green TRX dry...

I'll average 260/70 km till I hit reserve with the FCR's. The bike leans over on the sidestand tho when filling up with the arse end lifted so it's prob not quite full when I fill it.
