Tyre wear questions
I would like to know how far people let their tyres wear before they consider replacement???
1. Replace once they hit the wear indicators?
2. Replace when they are simply way too old?
3. Replace when grip level feels dangerous?
4. Replace when you catch a glimps of canvas?

Re: Tyre wear questions
replace rear when flat center due to tourque, front when the scores are gone. Had one front now with 3 rear changes...but i have to admit i use motorbreaking a lot so very little wear on front.Stankflapper wrote:I would like to know how far people let their tyres wear before they consider replacement???

Re: Tyre wear questions
For me, i replace the front when it starts to scallop (feathers up)unduly.
The rear i replace when i feel the profile is squaring off and i can feel it when riding straight line.
Never let them stay on for too long, uv exposure is a nasty thing to tyres.
My theory is use the grippiest front tyre you can afford and a dual/triple? compound rear.
i have a power pure front and a road2 rear.
cheers

Re: Tyre wear questions
I've always replaced front/rear together.. using pilot powers 7000Km but the last couple of thou they have last their edge on grip.
I did run a new avon Azaro 170/60 this last time tho on the rear for 3000 k's.. never again...
At $280 a pair to the door for a pair of powers off the net, why not replace both..

Re: Tyre wear questions
Toss up between 1 & 2 for me, my last set of Pilot Road 2's I waited way too long (& beyond the wear indicators!), had some very puckering moments
Running Conti Sport Attacks at the moment, was very impressed at first, but not so much now (or a month & half ago when I last rode the bike...) PR3's ASAP I reckon, maybe a Pure for the front...

Re: Tyre wear questions
depends a bit on the weather and where i am going.
Short local dry rides I let 'em go until the little white emergency grip markers appear under the rubber
A trip coming or away from home and i might update earlier.
Recently went from the pilot 2 to a battlax on the back, cant say its an improvement in the grip department although that was the requirement.
I will see how it wears, still hard work to break it free but clearly a harder tire.

Re: Tyre wear questions
I tend to change them when the profile + handling gets too weird which seems to be before the legal wear limit
