Hi Folks

Im ready to buy a gasket set for the engine build and Ive noticed that prices vary greatly

Is this because the quality varies greatly too ?

Im tempted to buy a cheap one , use the less important gaskets and then use a factory head gasket just to be sure

Any ideas or suggestions welcome

Not really knowing what kind of gaskets are involved, i'll put my 2c's in, go for original parts by yam, whats the price difference and whats the difference in getting an exact fit? might be the difference in doing the job twice or once?
that said I'm sure there are very good aftermarket gasket sets,but defo good idea to stick to yam for the head
what are the prices youve found?

Pattern sets are anywhere from £70 quid to £ 140 ......... and the head gasket from Yam is £40ish I think

So if you add £40 for orig yam head gasket to mid range pattern set its £140, yam cant be that far off this price can they? then you have all orig parts (but no spare pattern head gasket!)

The thing thats holding me back is the number of individual parts ill end up ordering

Still I suppose itll be worth the effort in the end

can you not get a full gasket set from yam? they must do a rebuild set surley,that would be a pain in the arse trying to order in all individual gaskets, and they would never all come in together

Never seen one listed but you could be right ...........ill ask the question

just had a look at your past posts on your engine failure JEESO! Thats a bit unfortunate to say the least! ditto others comments on never seeing before, on any kind of engine,(once found a 17mm spanner in the sump of a ford cargo though! how long it had been there I dont know!, but there was no rust on it !

looking at your post and reading some of the stuff makes me cringe at the neglect I've given my engine! I'll need to do some reasearch into cam chain adjustment I think, and whatever else goes with it.

Haha ..........yeh .........as far as I know im the only guy ever to have had a crank snap .......

But that was on a fully serviced engine ...... brand new oil and valves and camchain adjusted perfectly ......... if the previous owner had tightened the alternator screws it would have run forever ........ oil level checks allowing

Yeah, that hasnt flogged it on knowing it had dodgy welds on a crank!
