US Sourced TDM 850 Valves and Camchain in TRX Head??

I've got the 96 model TRX with the shitty stretching old intake valves. I've been looking at the prices here in Aus (rediculous!), the UK is looking better but our parity with the USD makes the US the cheapest by far.

The TRX didn't make it to US but the TDM was sold for two years and still has OEM spares for about half the price we pay here in Aus.

I've checked through the forums but couldnt find a definative answer on if the 92-93 TDM valves + camchain would work in my 96 TRX?

Here are some part no's I pulled from the website

94591-40138-00 CHAIN $38.06
3LD-12111-00-00 VALVE, INTAKE $16.00
3LD-12112-00-00 VALVE, INTAKE 2 $16.00
51Y-12119-00-00 SEAL,VALVE STEM $8.03

Note: on another US site 3LD-1211-00-00 and 3LD-12112-00-00 are replaced/updated to 3LD-1211-02-00 and 3LD-12112-02-00 respectivley.

Looking through the parts listing hosted here on the forums for the 97 TRX I see the part numbers are slightly different again
3LD-12111-01 intake 1
3LD-12112-01 intake 2

PS: I've noticed the exhaust valves, camchain and stem seals numbers match up with the TRX list, its only the intakes that puzzle me.

I know its a bit of a strange one but if someone could add some info here to help, we could have a good source for cheap TRX bits.

Cheers for the heads-up!
I too have thought about the American `route` for some spares, sadly I cannot answer your questions but look in the downloads section on here, I`m sure TRX part numbers are listed in there.

Shhhhhh, keep that area of the forum nice and quiet.
I could confirm at my local Yamaha dealers whether TDM and TRX valves are the same but I`m not going to be near there for at least three days or so.
To be honest, I`m SURE they are the same but won`t use the word certain until I can confirm it.
Damn good prices for the valves you`ve turned up there I must say.

Hi Mincehead,

Yeah I took a look at the part no's in the PDF on our site.
97 TRX850
intake 1 = 3LD-12111-01
intake 2 = 3LD-12112-01

From US sites,
92-93 TDM 850
intake 1 = 3LD-12111-02-00
intake 2 = 3LD-12112-02-00

I beleive the extra -00's are just extra check digits used for end items by dealerships.

If you could check with a dealer buddy of yours Mincehead we could be looking at good prices on a whole heap of parts. I'll keep checking different US sites for their latest part numbers.

I'm all for supporting local biz, but 80% added price margins are just plain stealing in my opinion.

Would be great if you confirm those Mincehead, I can confirm on paper that those valves are the same, 00, 01 and 02 are just the updated parts with 00 probably being the original shit ones. Our parts manual lists the 01 as the OEM part but most sites online show 02 as the current part number for the TDM and TRX. I found a lot of sites (by typing in the part no. in google) that sell the valves for certain Yamaha outboard engines and PWC's (good utilisation of the same part there Yamaha).

There are a whole heap of other parts available for that 92 TDM that match up with our TRX's, Head gaskets, waterpumps, camchain, cam sprockets (suprisingly), + more.

This site www.partshark.com seems to have the best pricing of the lot

VALVE, INTAKE for 1992 YAMAHA TDM 850
3LD-12111-02-00
$11.12

VALVE, INTAKE 2 for 1992 YAMAHA TDM 850
3LD-12112-02-00
$11.12

SEAL,VALVE STEM for 1992 YAMAHA TDM 850
51Y-12119-00-00
$5.59

GASKET,CYL HEAD 1 for 1992 YAMAHA TDM 850
4NX-11181-00-00
$43.08

CHAIN for 1992 YAMAHA TDM 850
94591-40138-00
$30.68

Multiply those by the req'd Qty's and thats about $170USD + $45 for P&H = $215USD or $213AUD today

I'll email a dealer for a quote here and see how the two stack up.

Ok, I CAN confirm the part no`s for TRX valves and they are identical to TDM valves:

3LD-12111-02 (Intake) is the same as the Yamaha prefix 00

And

3LD-12112-02 (Exhaust) is the same as the Yamaha prefix 00

Price: £252.09 for the ten valves
And £51.60 for the ten valve stem oil seals.

FOOK A ROOK!!!!

I was talking to my friendly local Yamaha dealer the other day (Webbs in Lincoln) and I was asking about part numbers, it was a question about TDR 250's but the smae principle applies. The first part of the part number is the model number and as you know ours is 4UN (UK) but often TDM 850 3LD parts are mentioned in the parts manual. The second part is what it is so 22110 is the swing arm and the last bit is the version which starts as 00 but is changed as it is updated. So the part numbers for the Inlet valves are for the TDM but have been changed twice........ I think

Yep, revision numbers are a very likely explanation. Yamaha only list the valves with an 00 prefix at the end so those from the American company may well be revised.
Anyway, I don`t believe they are any different so at those prices they are well worth a shot!
I`ve a brand new head, Ebay find for 80 or was it 100 :| quid. =D>
So it`ll be built up with new parts, gas flowed, reworked cams etc ready for the motor upgrades of the future.

Also check out http://www.Kedo.de in Germany. I just ordered and received six inlet valves, valve seals, timing chain, clutch basket tool, spark plugs, and some locking washers, delivered to Brisbane for the same cost as just the six valves from the dealer.

Parts ordered from www.partshark.com, will take about 3 weeks to get here as most of these TDM parts have to come from Japan (no stock in US). Understandable for a bike that was only sold for 2 years.

Prices are great, even with shipping. I got everything needed for the valve change: valves, stem seals, head gasket, camchain, etc + a new water pump (mech seal in mine leaks), new DID x-ring chain and sprockets, gunge brush and chain press tool all for $700 to the door. Quick replies to questions I had and a simple to use order system.

Same parts at the local stealers here in Aus quoted $1200. Enough said...
