FZR600/400 rr Headlight Probs

Hi
I've fitted a FZR600 headlight to my TRX (Looks really good too) it is the same as a FZR400RR I think with the dual round projector lights in the standard shape headlight housing. I have sorted the wiring and it works fine...... however there is no sidelight which is a MOT failure and I don't want to switch back headlights every MOT! How has anyone one else who has done this dealt with this problem. I have done a search and read that someone has split the headlamp and I would be interested how they did this. If I can split the glass screen off the front I should be able to mount a bulb up into the housing much like the side light is on the standard headlight.
Thanks
Heath

I´ve got the FZR400 light and it´s a double projector (with red rings) with low-high beam in both...FZR600 has a standard low beam reflector and high beam projector. IIRC those switch on -off.
FZR400 is OK in Sweden as it projects same lightning in both bulbs and within same glass, FZR600 light has a midsection though.
...ohh i´m rambling....

Hi
It sounds just like yours and I thought it was a FZR400 light but the guy selling it said it was a FZR600 (Might be why I got it cheap) I think they did put these lights on the FZR600 right at the end before they went to the YZF600, but my memory could be playing tricks with me

Fit some bright white LED`s in there.Easy to do with a small drill and clear silicon.12 volt ready wired LED`s are all over Ebay for nowt.

This is what I was intending to do but to make a good job of it I wanted to see if the glass could be taken off.

I`m sure it`s hard silicon that holds it in place,(I own an MuZ Skorpion as well) you MIGHT have some luck using any of the proprietary silicon sealer degraders that you can get but if it doesn`t touch it you`ll just have to do the drill and LED trick.

i think you may be worrying about a non issue here

I had an FZR 400 headlight in mine for a couple of years (many moons ago) and now have twin shark eye bulbs. Neither had side lights (just main beam and dipped) and it was never mentioned to me by the MOT testers

Hmmmm, you`re dead right Phuk, I don`t think it IS a requirement to have a sidelight.
Nor does this document:

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_910.htm

The FZR400RR lights are indeed those with the red lens surrounds:

Click on the image showing the front of the bike to enlarge.

My Skorpion has one projector beam unit and one plain silvered lens (projector is low beam and the other is high beam).A small capless (5w) bulb for the sidelight is nestled between them.
Mine is like this FZR600 headlamp:

It's quite easy to take the glass off if you do need to go down that route. Take the 4 steel clips off and heat the silicone sealant with a hair dryer and it just prises apart with moderate pressure. Too easy.

Hi
Thanks for all the responces, I'll try the hairdryer tonight!
With regards to the need for a parking light or position light this seems to say you do need one

Good luck with it hjp1968.By the way, I would recommend finding a tame M.O.T tester and keeping him well fed, the thing is very much down to personal interpretation.

What do the shark eye bulbs look like then?

They would be single filament halogens, H1 or H7 I`m guessing.
Anyone can search for fitment types using this excellent pictorial/specification listing from Ring:
