Headlight upgrades? Upgraded!
I don't know about you lot, but I reckon the TRX headlights are terrible!
Has anyone done any headlight upgrades?
I can get a HID kit for under a $100, or there's a twin headlight unit that bolts straight in on ebay now for $110, but that would require more work, maybe upgrading relays to get more power?
I guess the ultimate upgrade would be the twin headlight with HID's right?
If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know!
Edit: Here's the ebay link for the twin headlight, if someone wants it, I can't afford it right now:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/YAMAHA-TRX850-TW ... 3cabc25c6c
Must be off an FZR1000 or something?

Re: Headlight upgrades?
Hi M.V.
Yeah this headlights not too bad, but still not THE BEST. I remember Kev (849 - I think) had one for sale. I think from memory they are from a 400cc Yammy ( maybe a yzf400). That headlight with the HID would be pretty good I assume. I think from memory Kev also had a HID setup on his TRX with the standard light - but I am sure he (or others) will be along to give more accurate information

Understeer - when you hit the fence with the front of the bike.
Oversteer - when you hit the fence with the rear of the bike.
Horsepower - how fast you hit the fence.
Torque - how far you take the fence with you.

Re: Headlight upgrades?
Yes i do have the twin headlight still for sale and yes it doesn't throw out much light. Bulbs are quite difficult to find for these as well. I have the HID kit fitted and it is brilliant, picked up mine on Ebay brand new for $80. Quite easy to fit but i don't have an airbox so all the bits fit under the tank. All the info is on here if you care to search.
The cheapest upgrade is the Phillips crystal vision bulb at about $25 and it's a great improvement over standard.
Cheers, Kev.

FZR 400 RR is what you want but they are RARE.Alternatively you can use MuZ Skorpion sport and traveller too but often (as I know only too well) the vibes from the big singles fooks their adjustment pivot points and they can literaly fall apart!

Re: Headlight upgrades?
I have a HID kit on my bike. High beam is strong, but a bit to focused. Low beam is great and I'm sure it makes me a lot more visable in traffic.
My kit takes power directly from the battery.

Re: Headlight upgrades?
fitted an HID kit to the standard, cost about £60 (i'm in uk) quick and easy to fit and the difference over standard is well worth it. Beam patterns are still the same so very focussed on high beam but the intensity and the spread of light makes night riding much more pleasant.

Re: Headlight upgrades? Upgraded!
Hi all,
Fitted a HID onj the weekend, it's bloody brilliant! Pun intended, of course.
I got mine from here, the 55W version: http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-xeno ... e-kits.php
I found some kits in the US for $20, but the shipping was pretty bad.
The only thing I don't like, is that there seems to be a very distinct separation between the hi & lo beams, but it was like that with old globe, so it's probably a funktion on the reflector...
I didn't take any before & after shots, but we parked it & a CBR600F4i up against the wall & difference was astounding.
All up, a worthwhile upgrade.
Cheers!

Hang on I'll check...
Looks like the price has some down!
Nice, I can confirm the 55 Watt version works fine in the TRX.

Re: Headlight upgrades? Upgraded!
The H4 globe is usually a dual filament globe, but you can't do this with the HID's, so: Yes, the globe moves.
Not thick at all, it was pretty confusing to me until I bought one!
The plus side is, unlike other HID's where you switch globes from hi to lo, the H4 is a single globe, so flicking your high beams on & off won't damage the globes, & your hi beam doesn't need to warm up.
