Your welcome to try my Over cdi on a ride to see if the mod is really worth it.

Thanks All for your responses...
Did notice under 2500rpm its a bit boggy and not as sharp and responsive with it disconnected but over that it pulls well.
KEV... In your opinion what difference did you notice with the Over cdi??? Is there a timing advance/retard system in place corrilated from the rpm's of the motorcycle and not the throttle position? (just like the old centrifical weight system with points)
Any idea what the basis for it being on the throttle position??
More fuel... more time to ignite the extra volume maybe as an edjimicated guess??
Wait for it.. wait for it.. There you have it the energy is spent..

First thing i noticed was that i had to ride the clutch more to get off the mark. Secondly i found that it was too easy to ride away without putting up my sidestand

So the TPS modification bypasses the sidestand trigger also ???
Is that what your saying??
And the sidestand trigger is retained if using an OVER cdi unit with the benifit of smoother power delivery under 2500rpm??? ( make life easier if riding in traffic alot )

i have done the trixynut tps mod and the side stand switch still works fine , it just puts the spark to full advance ,, now it would be interesting to know at what revs the std cdi with the tps attached started to advance the spark,,, i remember the old bob weights and points it only needed to rev a few hundred revs more and they were at full advance :D

The Over box puts you at full advance, bypasses the sidestand cutout and moves the rev limiter 1000 rpm up the range.

Yes maybe the FCR's are running a little lean down low as it pops and farts when backing off pulling up at the lights, so maybe why its a little lost of the mark even with a 16/40 gearing.
May have to give the slow air jet half turn in and half turn out on the slow jet to deal with that???
Just waiting on bigbore headers at present and decision on air intake weather bellmouths with ramair sock or K&N pod filters and re-jett to suit.
I'm sure I'll bolt on a few extra H/P getting it to breathe properly. :D :D
Will wait till I do the intake and exhaust before looking into ignition options tho. (hopefully by swap meet at Haigslea)

If it pops/bangs at throttle close your lean at the slow jet.....wich by the way ain´t adjustable...you have to change jet.
It can be helped with more open fuel screws though, if it´s not over ~2 turns out.
When warm blip the throttle, it should go back to idle at once....if it goes under idle it´s fat and if it takes a bit to idle it´s lean...
....although it´s fun when it bangs..... 8)

Dragging up an old thread, apologies!

My plan is to add a switch to short the two wires to ground, then you can have a nice idle & more power when you get up it later, but will this work or likely blow up my cdi?

I'd like to keep my sidestand switch if possible!

Any hints would be most appreciated

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my intent!

I plan to use a switch to short the two wires to ground, rather than unplugging the whole thing & then shorting the wires to ground. Will this cause any problems?

My understanding of the TPS is that if you disconnect it, you get 2-3 more HP at all RPMS... But rough running down low?

MV I can send you my TPS plug with the wiring mod done to see the difference if any on your bike . It is set up so you only have to connect it to the neg battery terminal . You run around with standard TPS , then stop and unplug one and plug in the other to see / feel the difference .
catch ewe later bob
