Hi,
Has anyone removed and reset their timing chain tensioner?
I just want to make sure mine is operating properly. Had a look in Haines manual, and it says to remove valve cover is this necessary..? Can i just pull out the plunger and the assemply. refurbish, and replace. then follow the procedure for cranking the engine two turns ? Also in the manual they refer to turning the engine anti -clockwise. is this looking from the alternator side ?
Advice please.
Thanks

Re: timing chain tensioner
once you start to remove it you must take it out ,,the centre bolt is the spring, so undo the top and bottom bolts and remove the tensioner, undo the centre bolt and remove the spring,,, release the ratchet mechanism and push the plunger back,, if any of it looks evan a bit worn i would replace it ,,,it not worth the risk ,,,now with the plunger back in the body bolt the thing back on without the spring ,,once the top and bottom bolts are in you can refit the spring tighten the centre bolt and turn the engine over by hand using the nut behind the left hand crankshaft cover turn the nut anticlockwise as you look at the nut ,, 2 or 3 turns and your done ,,it goes without saying to check all gaskets and be careful do NOT be tempted to turn the motor over with the starter ,,,,,now download the manual and read it ,,its your best friend
