Yes the seal (Yamaha part number 93102 - 35459 according to the parts listing pdf in the downloads section) pulls outwards and for those not familier with the self tapping or wood screw `trick` I managed to find this on Youtube, sorry it`s of an old 2 stroke Jawa 350cc twin being worked on but the screw trick can be viewed from 05:08 onwards :
