Best practice cleaning pistons...?

Well, who has the best way of cleaning years of carbon etc from the pistons....have an extra set wich i want to clean up good...

A big screwdriver
Seriously, most things will work.
Petrol and oven cleaner work for me (as does carb cleaner but that is expensive).
Use a kitchen pad (sponge on one side and that mildly abrasive on teh othr side). Top tip - the old rings are great for clearing out the grooves.
And if it is really bad - take a dremmel to them.

for cleaning the ring grooves, get an old piston ring !
just snap it in half,, it fits perfectly in there, an old trick some guy taught me, saved me much heart ache.
And any kitchen oven cream cleaner with some elbow grease is fine. Use a rag, NOT a scratching pad (scotchbrite / 3M abrasive type, the green thinggies)
If you DO use one, only do it on the top, not the skirt, ive heard its bad (altho i dont know why ?!?) Could be maybe you will scratch it in the wrong direction, and part of the the machine marks are for oiling ?! dunno, could be a joke on me.. either way.
