School boy error causes gear selection problems

Post by PhatVR6 » Wed May 23, 2007 11:32 pm

As you may know, I've completely rebuilt the bike since crashing it last year.

Only had it running for a week. SAt on it the other day and accidentally kicked it down into 1st. and it got stuck! couldn't get it out at all unless the engine was off.

Couldn't find neutral either, no matter how hard I tried.

Took the bike off it's stand and to see if it was any better when trying to ride it. nope.

then I realised. I wasn't in 1st.....I was in 5th! I've put the arm on the gear selector spindle the wrong way round, effectively reversing the whole gate, Moto GP style!

easily done, easily fixed.....just in case you have the bike in bits and end up with a similar problem.

I know this one as I managed to do the same in post-winter rebuild hassle. Noticed it as I tried to take off in 2nd. However, I instantly made myself believe that this was, in fact, mod done in purpose, I just couldn't exactly remember when the decision was made to invert the gears. Never looked back since as it is much better this way really. Only, it is quite irritating to ride other bikes as one think over every gear change, but life is, isn't it.
