Fork special tool

Post by OzzieDave » Wed Jul 26, 2017 5:30 am

I recently had to remove my damper tube from the forks, I was installing emulators from ProMechA.
One damper tube came out easily, the other one not, the retaining bolt would not undo, even with the spring preload at maximum.
My local Yamaha dealer wanted $120 per hour, or part thereof, to remove it.
So I scrounged around the shed and found a galvanised plumbing fitting which fitted perfectly (3/4 x 3/8 reducing adaptor m/m), I cutoff the 3/8 side, machined it square in the mini lathe, welded onto some steel rod, about 8mm diameter, then welded the other end into some scrap square tubing.
Took all of one minute to undo the bolt and just on an hour to make the tool.
