Setting float levels ... to which float half?

Post by WR450FGreg » Sat Apr 11, 2015 7:09 am

.
I did a search and didn't really find much to answer my question....

Unfortunately, the digital copy of my TRX Workshop Manual only goes as far as Chapter 9.
Apparently Chapter 10 is where float levels are explained. Wouldn't you know it?

I've done 'em plenty of times on old TZs back in the day, so I'm fairly familiar with the (fiddly bloody! ....) process .....

It's just that the float halves in my 1998 TRX carbs are different sizes. ie. in each carby each float half is a different size, one half hangs about 2mm lower than the other when the carbs are held upright.
Which float do I make my measurements to? The lower hanging one, or the higher one?

I'm guessing the lower one.
Yeah?

Thanks dicky.

Chapter 6 in my digital manual is Frame, Suspension and Final Drive.
Chapter 4 is Fuel and Exhaust Systems.

I'll check out the downloads.

Cheers

Ah, well there you go! .....
It's a different method of measuring fuel level than I am familiar with.
You learn something every day! :D

I think the manual you have is a scan of the Haynes TRX/TDM/XTZ service guide.
It may not be named as such and the first few pages might be missing, but it is easily identified as it has 'scanned by stalker' on the bottom of every page.
The carb fuel level check is on page 4.10 but unfortunately pages 4.10 to 4.16 are missing, it skips from 4.9 to 5.1. Bugger!
I hadn't noticed this before but I normally use the Yamaha manual anyway.

Hi

Been doing my carbs this weekend and found that setting the smaller float ( one closest to the needle valve ) 14mm from the base is the way to go. I found it sets the fuel level 5 mm from carb level as per service manual fuel level check.
