Top end rebuild

I had all the parts to do this, but I sold them with my old head #-o

Anyway, time to do it! I'm going to order all the parts from the US, am I correct in thinking it's the TDM850 parts I need as the TRX was never sold in the US?

I'll hone the bores, replace the valve stem seals, rings & camchain, so I need valve stem seals, rings, all the gaskets the camchain, anything I've missed?

They only appear to list 0.5mm oversize rings for the TDM, will I be able to use these or will that not work? I suspect it won't...

Yes, all TDM 850 parts and you just want standard size rings unless you are doing a rebore. I ordered from PartShark and ordered the hone (3-3/4" flex-hone) from ebay

Look at the option of a copper head gasket, not only reusable but you can get a thinner gasket made to raise the compression ratio a few points. Your not shaving material off the head then to achieve the same result. Std gasket thickness is 1mm . (0,75mm compressed)
Your copper gasket does not compress and the old guy who makes mine up gives me an option of 0.55mm , 0.9mm, 1.2mm.

Yes Alex,
I have some hylomar spray I'll be using on mine. Brett used the same when sealing his head gasket.
It's there to seal against coolant fluid leaks .

I probably won't, though it's good to have the option, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I'd prefer not to have to remove the head again in a hurry & the extra money is probably better spent getting the FCR's in my shed on the bike! Certainly more power gains than a couple of compression points ;)

Not chasing power gains at this stage, just want to stop the oil burning.

Edit: Found the standard rings, about $200 US all up for the parts, plus freight, not too bad at all.

Haven't ordered yet, but Partzilla.com is the cheapest, that's where I usually go. Used to be Partshark, but Partzilla is slightly cheaper & has Honda stuff also.
