YZF750 Front Fork Set Up

Can anyone offer any advice please?

I'm just getting the TRX fettled on the road after finishing the rebuild and first thoughts are that the YZF forks could do with raising through the yolks (i.e. lowering the front). They are currently set flush with the top yolk. I've looked around the site but haven't found any basic YZF set up info (guess it's probably there somewhere) but can anyone offer any advice on a good basic starting point?

Much appreciated if so. For info it's YZF750 front and rear.

The YZF forks are already shorther than the TRX forks.
This is not a problem since the original forks stick trough the yolk a lot.
Besides that usually people fit the clipons below the YZF york instead of above like original.
So, a couple of mm's should do it. Do not go any further as the radiator will touch the fender easily.
With the YZF fender this already happend by my bike, even with the forks almost flush with the yolk.

mine are 8mm through the top yokes. I had them flush when I did it but on the first ride I fount the front a bit light. You cant go much more than 8mm through at the mud guard will foul the radiator, so you would then need to raise the rear, I have the YZF dog bones on mine

I am very happy with the set up but I do also have an R6 shock (I weigh 72kg Cobba :wink: ) and I out linear .9 springs in the front. Still with 10w oil

Cheers Con Rod. Further sound advice, not least about the front mud guard. I didn't realize that this was an issue and something I will have exacerbated through fabricating a simple radiator cover to tidy up the front.The bottom edge of the cover runs level with the bottom of the lower rad lugs which essentially loses me about 5mm of clearance. Something I need to look at.

Fortunately I'm still in the process of shaking down post rebuild (so I'm only running in) and haven't yet ridden in anger. Good job too as I've a binding rear brake that's overheating and locking up. Quite exciting! Just (re)stripped and cleaned the m/c and caliper and re-fitted which will hopefully resolve the problem. I'll find out today if I get chance to bleed the system - again!! After my front brake issues I'm more than fecked off with brake problems - I always imagined getting the bike going would be the hard bit, not getting it stopped! Part of the fun though I guess........

When i got miss blackie she had aftermarket pads in the front and rear.
Turned out to be overthick. .. don't know why.
I replaced them with another set of pads but i needed to remove the shims in the rear....no binding :-)
I went to bluespot calipers and an R6 master on the front.

Thanks for this Fung. Given you determined that the pads were over thick is there an optimum thickness? I've not had chance to bleed them yet so do not yet know whether this is an issue but forewarned............

Not sure what the correct thickness is....but they were 'ebay' pads I took out.
Ferodo pads went in...bled up..no binding.
bluespots with EBC HH now live in the front.....sooooo much nicer.

Bled the rear today and joy of joys it appears sorted. Spins nice and smoothly with no binding. That'll have been a sticking piston then. Thanks for the responses.
