radiator hoses

Hi. I've just finished doing my valve clearances and now have a water leak from the radiator hose/pipe that's next to the spark plugs. Any original seal had long since perrished so a new yamaha seal has been fitted but i'm still getting a leak. I've attached a pic from the service manual of the area



The pipe only connects to the engine by 1 allen bolt. The flange on the pipe on my bike only goes half way round and i'm thinking that maybe the other half has corroded away, but in the pic it looks like it only goes halfway round the pipe. Can anyone confirm that this is correct? Has anyone had water leaks from this part of the engine? If so how did you cure it?

I would imagine you have either damaged the O ring or fitted it incorrectly. I like to grease mine up before fitting to prevent snagging. Single bolt is fairly standard for Yamaha at least so no worries there. You sure you've used the right bolt ? Longer bolt might bottom out before doing what it's s'posed to.

Hi G Beal. The o ring isn't damaged and is the correct Yamaha part. I'm also using the right bolt. I've attached a couple of pics of the pipe. It looks like half the shoulder is missing. There was nothing there when i took it off and i've not found it lying around either. When i have the pipe fitted to the bike you can move it side to side a little. I'm guessing it should have a shoulder all the way round to make the seal sit nicely. Can anyone confirm that my pipe is indeed missing this bit? The pics on the Yamaha service doc don't show much and there's no pics of it in my Haynes manual either. If it turns out in need a replacement pipe does anyone on here have one for sale?

I guess this answers my own question -



looks like the bottom of my pipe has either completly rotted away or is still stuck in my engine.

Yeah something is missing for sure. Not enough pipe sticking out past the O ring for my liking & nothing to push the O ring home either ? I had loads of leaks, water & oil on my FZ750 when I bought it. I paid a few quid for one of those O ring sets on ebay with all different sizes in & probably only used 4 of them. No rusty pipes just 13 year old seals gone hard.
