Post by Kenny » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:19 pm

I started the chynook up this morning and its still running on 1 pot. The left header pipe gets hot but the gas out the pipe is cold while the right header gets luke warm and the gas ou the pipe is warmer than the left? HELP Please!
My bike maybe a dinosaur but it still has some bite & has a mighty roar.

:? Are you saying its only running, i.e firing on one cylinder, or just that the header of one side is colder than the other?? If so try a search as this has been discussed before.

like Dave, I'm not clear what the problem is

are you running on 1 cylinder? Most likley electrical issue

or

are you concerned that oen cylinder runs hotter than the other? If yes, then don't worry - they all do that sir (search if you want mnore info)

Could be a dud sparkplug. Put new plugs in it and see if it returns to normal.

IF it`s running on one cylinder I fail to see how BOTH headers are getting warm/hot.
Weird,if the left header is hot but the exiting exhaust gases are cold, sounds like a misfire situation but then the other cylinder is obviously running as the exiting gases are warm. :?
Are you SURE it`s only running on one cylinder?
I think one cylinder is intermittantly firing, far more plausible.
VERY likely electrical as others have said.

if its been in storage for a while, im 99% confident its your spark plug. Mine does the exact same thing.
Where i was living previously, it was under cover, but it was only a covering, not a fully-enclosed shed. The ceramic on your spark plugs are VERY susceptible to moisture. Welcome to swollen spark plugs. Change both of them and you should be good to go.
Next time you leave your bike for an extended period of time (more than 2 weeks or whatever) get 2 foam / paper / plastic drinking cups. Push it over your exhaust end-can. As long as it provides a fairly decent seal, your all set. Best thing with that method is, if you forget, they blow off really easy. You can use masking tape, or whatever else.. But you need to remember to remove it, else it bakes on.

hope this fixes your problem !
