track pressures

Post by wannicle » Mon Apr 21, 2008 9:52 pm

hi chaps. first ever track day (evening) this thursday - can't wait!

ive got bridgestone 020's on the bike, not ideal but that's what's on and beggars cant be choosers.
Any one got any idea of what pressures to run with these particular tyres?

Personally, I don't change my pressures for track from road. Especially at this time of year as it's only about 15 degrees max at the moment, and 020's are not a sticky track tyre so won't get dead hot anyway. Stick with whatever you usually put in them, and take a pressure tester with you so you can check them after each session.

and normally, I would lower the pressure when it's cold, to make the tyres go warmer... :D But, like what Trixy said, 020s might not benefit from this, and at our level of 'going fast', it is most probably overkill anyway. Go with standard pressure, if You feel You loose the grip, talk to some of the experienced guys and let them look at the tyres, and they'll help You out.

First track day - leave the tyre pressures alone (assuming they are in mid 30s and you are happy with how they work on the road).

Don't worry about 020s not being track tyres - in these temperatures they offer more than enough grip
