what state of tune is your TDM? doesnt it have a big bore kit on it? actually I will be interested to see what you think about the tuned lump and whether or not you think its worth the investment?

My (ex) TDM was standard bore and valves. Just a head job (f'nar, f'nar) rods (unnecessary) and well set up

you sold it?! I always said to contact me first!

mind you I thought you had the big bore in there as well.

So head work are you talking about flowing the head and cams?

what sort of power was that knocking out then?

Jeezus coxxy - I completely forgot that conversation! didn't even trigger when I wrote the last post!

I put an ad on Carpe and it went to Wales. - sorry about that.

Flowed head, Kent cam reprofile, PC and Akras It wasn't a huge power gain - about 88 at the wheel when fresh but it had oodles of torque and 69 bhp @ 5000 rpm.

Apologies again coxxxxxxxy - completely forgot you asked first dids :? Altzheimers getting worse!

Haha it's ok Al, it was about 5 year ago or something  as it goes I was recently in the market for a new bike too and that would have been perfect. I have ended up buying a GS about 4 weeks ago. Not to worry mate me GS is a beaut too.

88 at the back wheel is a good figure for just head work and set up time. I wonder what would be possible with a capacity increase...

The only other TTS tuned 900 was a mate of mine and it was bored and replated to 960. It had more grunt than mine but I felt it had a harshness to it that mine didn't have. Unfortunately he didn't fit a modified cam chain adjuster when the chain got noisy and it lunched it's pistons and valves :?

Oh not good. Did you use the modified tensioner on yours? Fazer owners are starting to use those.

I had heard that they went back from 960 to 929 for drivability reasons

Yeah, I changed mine at the first sign of noise, I tried modifying the spring before the amended tensioner came out on the market. That was the only thing I'd to do to the 900 in 35,000 miles apart from routine maintenance - dead reliable bike!

What does 960 & 929 mean?

The capacity increase was originally 960 I think but then went back to a more modest 929cc because of drivability and reliability issues. So I hear anyways.

When do you hear the cam chain noise? And what does it sound like? Mine seems pretty quiet

A light "rustling" noise which comes and goes. The modified tensioner came out in 2005 or 06. The new one has a longer supporting body inside the camchain tunnel - I think they're identical from the outside. It's an R6 type of tensioner on a coil spring, not the ratchet type of the 850
