MV's First Track Day!

Post by M.V. » Wed Mar 07, 2012 1:39 am

I had a ball! It was at Broadford, organised through another forum I'm on (Netrider).

I was slow. I got lapped, more than once, but I still had a great time. Got better towards the end of the day, started to work out gear selction better, at the start of the day I was banging up & down through first & second through the back half of the circuit & only getting into 4th on the straights, I worked out to keep it in second for pretty much all the back half, (crash corner onwards to the main straight), then into 5th, back to 2nd for the double apex turn 1.

These are some pics from early in the day.

Coming onto the main straight

Being overtaken by an SV650:

That SV650 lapped me three times in the first sessions, only once in the last session, so either he got slower or I got faster!

Who cares how many times you got lapped or how fast your are - if you had fun, that's all that counts.

But be careful - track days are addictive ;)

Yeah, I had an absolute ball!

There was only 20 of us, we had on & off track coaching from experienced superbike racers, can't get any better than that!

Once I worked out (or was shown, actually!) the correct lines, I got pretty consistent towards the end, mainly I wanted to work on corner entry speeds & 'smooth', rather than fast.

Can't wait for the next one!

Threw on some Dunlop Sportmax Q2's for the day as well, I am incredibly impressed with these, if they last more than a few thousand k's I'll be even more impressed!

It was put on by Netrider, another forum I spend a bit of time at.

Total cost was $175 including lunch & one day race license.

I really want to get to another one before these tyres are destroyed, they're fuk'n briliiant, but I don't think they'll last long!

Edit: hey 666 posts, can't post on here anymore!
