Silverstone GP Circuit - Monday 02 June (Evening)

Post by PeterGreen » Tue May 13, 2008 1:38 pm

I've booked on to a track evening with Hottrax at silverstone (full GP circuit 8-[) on Monday 02 June 2008. As it's an evening jobbie it'll be from about 5.30pm to 8.30pm, so around 2-3 sessions, all for £55. I've never been on the track at Silverstone, so I'd better get some practice in on Forza Motorsport first! I'll of course be in the novice group.

I'm not sure how strict they are on noise at Silverstone, so I'll be carrying the exhaust baffles with me just in case, with it being a 102db limit. If anyone's had any experience with Silverstone and noise please let me know.

Pete mate,

Silverstone is a good wide smooth track, some say a bit boring, but I like it. The stretch from the old hairpin through Bridge and round to the start/finish straight is great! GP track is good: you'll prolly get murdered down the long back straight by the 1000's but you'll make it up in the corners!

Noise doesn't usually matter at Silverstone, so you'll be fine. I've never known them noise test when I've been on trackdays there, and even if they did and they've got a nominal 102db limit, this won't worry you as that's fuggin' loud! (think racebike loud!).

If I wasn't on a break at Center Parks that weekend before I'd have joined you. Enjoy!!

Dave.

Spot on, it'd be good to meet a fellow TRX'er. :D I'll be there with a mate (GSXR1000) and a couple of his mates I think.

Thanks for the info. on the noise, however she is actually quite loud

You can test your new brakes by outbraking that GSX-R...

That may be a little ambitious, but I'll give it my best shot with the R1 blue spot calipers and master cylinder I recently acquired 8)

Silverstone is wide and safe (if a little featureless) and very long so take your time and learn it (grab an instructor for the first session if you can)

Personally i love the place but my bike will not get under 102db so evening sessions are out.

Siverstone was extremely greasy last night; one guy managed to bin it during the first session on the second sighting lap! Following a red flag and a short wait in the pits my mate binned his Gixer on Copse - luckily he was ok, however the Gixer was fairly well lunched, so therefore unrideable. The track was proper greasy, so what with the conditions and the fact that I was trying to learn the track I found it fairly intimidating. Most went home after the first and second sessions, which resulted in an open pitlane format and countless red flags.

During the briefing the Silverstone dude came accross quite strict with regards to noise, and insisted they'd be constantly monitoring for anything over 102db. He stated offenders will be asked to leave and won't be given the opportunity to refit baffles. They did however offer the option to noise test before the sessions started to give people the opportunity to refit baffels, which I went for. Mine easily passed, so I see now; that is fuggin' loud!

All in all not a great evening, so I'm keen to give Silverstone another try in the future and hope for better conditions.

The weather was a bummer; I was just glad to keep the Rex in one piece having seen the state of my mate's machine.

I didn't get to see the db reading, the guy said "that's really quiet, you won't struggle at any track with that". So at least I don't have to worry about any other tracks and noise now, however I'm really surpised at how loud 102db must be!

Peter, Mine got tested at Cadwell a couple of weeks ago and made 99Db.
That was with Wolf Cans with the proper wolf Db killers bolted in. Probably need repacking as it used to get 95-96Db. Got through the MOT like that and i do ride on the road quite a bit.
